Planning Comment March 09
Conservation Advisory Group Meeting
17 March 2009
Application BH2009/00414 & 415
The Old Market, 11A Upper Market Street, Hove, BRUNSWICK TOWN.
"Erection of 2 new penthouse apartments on the roof of the Old Market combined with a new meeting room facility for the Old Market. Extension of existing stair/lift well to south for access to the new apartments".
CAG recommended Refusal on the grounds that what is proposed would not enhance the listed building or the Conservation Area. The group agreed without the need for a vote that the proposal would neither preserve nor enhance the Conservation Area and the proposal pays insufficient respect to the listed building and should be recommended for Refusal. If it is recommended for Approval they request that it be considered by the Planning Committee.
Application BH2009/00262
1 to 2 consecutive Victoria Terrace, Hove, CLIFTONVILLE.
"Change of use of existing car showroom (Sui Generis) and associated basement storage to 2 two-bedroom flats at lower ground-floor level and 1 one-bedroom flat at ground floor level. Creation of 2 professional A2 units at lower- ground floor and ground floor levels, with installation of new shop-fronts".
This application was deferred pending receipt of further detailed plans and the application for Listed Building Consent. The building has interesting architectural features.
Application BH2009/00258
38 Brunswick Square, Hove, BRUNSWICK TOWN.
"Installation of satellite dish on the roof of the property".
The group had no objection to the principle of a satellite dish that could not be seen from the road but was concerned over the fixing proposal and possible impact on roof drainage which could become prone to blocking. They also considered that there were potential dangers in high winds.
