Lawnscroft Nursing Home, 155 Kingsway, Hove - PEMBROKE AND PRINCES AREA

"Demolition of existing building [and construction of replacement nursing home]".

CAG considered the design of the proposed replacement building acceptable and recommended Approval subject to the Planning Officers` ensuring that the colour of brick used be somewhere between the bright red of the adjacent Princes Marine Hotel and the much darker shade shown in the artist`s impression of the proposed new building.

Application BH2009/00162

Mews House, St. John`s Road, Hove BRUNSWICK TOWN

"Erection of garden room on roof".

CAG noted the significance of establishing precedents in such cases, but concluded that the application in itself is unobjectionable given that the structure would be barely visible from street level. On balance, the group chose to make No Comment.

Application BH2009/00405

9 Tongdean Road, Hove. TONGDEAN  AREA.

"Demolition of existing garage and associated structures to the front and rear of the existing house and the erection of new detached dwelling with separate garage, new access road and associated landscaping to land at rear".

Application Withdrawn.

Application BH2009/00414 & BH2009/00415

"Erection of 2 new penthouse apartments on the roof of the Old Market combined with a new meeting room facility for the Old Market. Extension of existing stair/lift well to south for access to the new apartments".

This application appeared on the Agenda, despite having been discussed at the previous CAG meeting, because some minor amendments had been expected - but in fact no amendments were forthcoming. CAG confirmed its view that the proposal would neither preserve nor enhance the Conservation Area and that the proposal pays insufficient respect to the Listed Building and should therefore be recommended for Refusal.
