Objections June 07

01660- Lawnscroft Nursing Home, 115 Kingsway:  construction of new 4/5 storey 31 bed nursing home.
HCS saw no basis to object on planning grounds as the proposed building is no higher than the adjacent ones, but the proposed teak cladding needs to be done to a high standard. It is also noticeable that most rooms have balconies/spaces which seems unusual for a nursing home.
CAG had no objection but recommended careful consideration to detail: there are insufficient details in the plans and a more permanent material than wood cladding is desirable.

01302- The Bungalow, 11 Hangleton Lane: erection of a 2 storey house on the land adjoining Hangleton Manor.
HCS considered this over-development on a very narrow site and a letter of objection has been written. The plans are poor and the design boring.
CAG recommended refusal because of the minimal detail on the plans and the lack of relationship shown to the adjoining listed building.

01708- Land to the rear of 11 Tongdean Road: erection of one 5 bedded house
CAG welcomed an improvement on previous plans for 2 houses and noted that this would have no visual impact on the street scene.

00373/381- 50/52 New Church Road - between Westbourne Villas and Sackville Gardens: - the demolition of the former Westbourne Hospital, further development proposal.
The applicant had requested CAG's views prior to amending the proposal but CAG did not like the suggested modifications which they did not consider an improvement, not enhanced by the addition of pitched roofs. CAG would encourage revisions

33 Mile Oak Road, Portslade:  application to demolish the house and surrounding flint walls and to construct eight 2 storey buildings and a flat, as a mews style development.
HCS was requested to comment by the adjoiming owners but after careful inspection of the plans saw no reason to object.
